why you should consider skateboarding in schools

Skateboarding holds tremendous value for school programs, offering a dynamic and inclusive avenue for kids to stay active beyond traditional team sports. It not only provides an enjoyable physical activity but also positively impacts mental health by fostering perseverance in learning new skills and boosting confidence with each progression. The flexibility of skateboarding is a key asset, allowing kids to engage in the sport anywhere, anytime, and practice at their convenience, eliminating the rigid schedules found in other sports. This individualistic approach promotes essential qualities such as coordination, risk analysis, self-discipline, and patience. In a supportive school environment, students can challenge themselves, conquer fears, and express their creativity without the fear of judgment from others. By integrating skateboarding into physical education or extracurricular activities, schools not only contribute to the overall well-being of students but also nurture a sense of community and camaraderie through this versatile and accessible sport.

Self expression;
We want skateboarding in schools to be almost an escape for students. We want them to feel as though they aren’t at school being “forced” to learn. Skating is a fun activity where students can get creative and be truly themselves. The best learning happens when students have an open mind and are wanting to retain new information.

Enhancing confidence;
Through experience, skateboarding has made us a more expressive and confident version of ourselves. There is a strong sense of belonging in the community where differences are celebrated.

Participation;
Through past experience we notice that in every PE we took there were always a group sitting out/not wanting to be involved… we found that because skateboarding was something new and foreign, every single time without fail, everyone got curious, got involved and gave it a shot with their friends - which is what we value!

A new approach;
Skateboarding in schools is a new “unconventional” way to involve students in your physical education programme. By allowing the students to try a “new” and fun thing as part of your curriculum, they are moving their bodies, being active and learning to set new goals either with coaches or on their own. They can then take these skills out of school and apply it to their day to day lives.
